A typical week might include school, shopping, outings, a visit to the doctor, church, crafts, and visiting with your guests.
After the birth of their babies, many of our residents are able to keep lifelong friendships that were developed here at Lifeline.
Since each young mother is experiencing an unexpected pregnancy, the bonds created here are lasting. The residents laugh together, share their joys together and even cry together.
You will receive excellent prenatal and postnatal care. Caring, compassionate house parents and counselors offer sessions on a one-on-one basis. The home provides planned recreational events and child birth classes on a regular schedule. The Debbie Gordon home pictured above is nestled on 40 acres and has eight beds for mothers as well as spacious living quarters. Resident house parents provide 24 hour assistance.
Typical Questions and Answers
What is Lifeline Village?
We are a Christian residential care facility for pregnant, abused, neglected and at-risk girls and women. We have a maternity home for girls and women at any age who are in need of housing during their pregnancy and are considering adoption as one of their options for their unborn child. Lifeline Village also has a long term home for girls between the ages of 10-18 who, after placement, decide they would like to continue living on campus until they graduate from high school.
How was Lifeline Village started?
Lifeline Village was founded by Wales Goebel in 1984. The ministry moved to its present location in Pell City in 1986. Lifeline Village is now owned and operated by Lifeline Children’s Services, Inc.
How is Lifeline Village supported?
Lifeline Village is a nondenominational, privately funded non-profit organization. The majority of its support comes from individuals, churches, and groups.
What makes Lifeline Village different?
We feel it is important not only to minister to our resident’s physical needs, but her emotional, social, and spiritual ones as well. By focusing on the resident’s entire well-being, we hope she will leave our care as a well-rounded individual who will be better prepared to meet her goals in all areas of her life. We believe accomplishing these goals starts in a nurturing and stable home environment, which is what our homes strive to be.
What happens when a girl in the long term home turns 18, or graduates from high school?
When a young lady turns 18, and has completed her schooling, we will attempt to enroll her in a college, trade school, or the military, whichever she feels is best suited for her. Lifeline Village is not the end for the girls who come to us, but is a positive, productive instrument the Lord uses to provide a new beginning for young women and to encourage them to choose to devote their lives to Christ and to become solid women of God.
Do I have to stay at Lifeline Village or may I stay in my own home in my own city?
Absolutely! The home is there for those who need it. In fact, most of our clients remain in their own residence. But the Village is there if you need it.
Will I be able to continue my education?
Yes, most definitely! If you are still in school, you will have the opportunity to attend classes right here at Lifeline Village.
Can I have a job if I want?
Yes. If you have completed high school (or have a GED) and can provide your own transportation, you can have outside employment. We will assist you in job placement if you desire.
Where will I deliver? Can my family be with me?
Your delivery will be in a Birmingham hospital, which provides the best in care for you. You are free to choose your own "coach" during labor, and you might want to select a family member. Your family can come to the hospital and visit with you and the baby if you would like.
